How to Clean Your BrushUpdated 22 minutes ago

Keeping your Brush On Block® mineral powder sunscreen brush clean helps it perform its best and ensures smooth, even application every time.

These instructions apply to all Brush On Block mineral powder brushes, including:

Cleaning refers to quick maintenance between uses. Washing refers to a deeper clean with soap and water.

Note: These instructions are for our self-dispensing powder brushes only, not the Sheer Genius Brush, which is designed for lotion.

When to Clean

If your brush looks full but is not dispensing powder easily, it is probably time for a clean.

Quick Clean

For regular upkeep between washes:

  • Make sure your brush is in the closed position.
    Adult brushes: turn to "close."
BOB KIDS brush: turn away from the smiley face.
  • Spray a clean paper towel or cloth with 2 to 4 spritzes of brush cleaner.
  • Gently wipe the bristles on the towel until they look clean.
  • Let the brush air dry before using again.

Deep Clean or Wash

We recommend a deeper wash when your brush is empty and ready for a refill.

If you need to wash it sooner, first pour any remaining powder onto a clean piece of paper or into a clean container.

  • Remove the end cap and set it aside.
Adult brushes only. The BOB KIDS brush is not refillable.
  • Hold the brush horizontally under running water and wet only the bristles.
  • Add a small amount of mild soap or brush shampoo to your palm and gently swirl the bristles.
  • Rinse while keeping the brush horizontal or bristles facing downward.
  • Squeeze the bristles to check for any remaining powder or soap. Repeat until the water runs clear.
  • Gently press the bristles into a clean towel to remove excess water.
  • Let the brush dry overnight on its side.

Once completely dry, pour the saved or refill powder back in and replace the end cap.
Adult brushes only. The BOB KIDS brush is not refillable.

If Powder Clogs Inside the Brush

If water gets inside the brush and powder clumps form, you can usually fix it easily:

  • Find the small white tube in the center of the bristles.
  • Gently insert a straightened paper clip to break up the clog.

Your brush should then dispense powder normally.

Keep It Fresh

To keep your brush in great shape:

  • Wipe bristles regularly with brush cleaner and a towel.
  • Wash thoroughly at refill time.
  • Avoid getting water into the white dispensing tube.

And do not forget to reapply your sunscreen every two hours for continuous protection.
